Montego Bay takes off to Medellín: Wingo launches new direct route to Colombia

MONTEGO BAY, JAMAICA - JUNE 25, 2026: MBJ Airports Limited (MBJ), operator of the Sangster International Airport (SIA), marked the launch of a new direct air link between Montego Bay, Jamaica, and Medellín, Colombia, on Tuesday, June 23.  The new route strengthens Montego Bay’s role as a key Caribbean gateway for international air connectivity and expands low-cost access to one of Colombia’s most dynamic destinations.

Connecting Sangster International Airport with José María Córdova International Airport, the non-stop international route was officially launched by Wingo with an inaugural flight with 121 passengers.  With three weekly flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, travellers will be offered a total of 31,992 seats per year.  Through this direct connection, passengers from Jamaica will be able to fly directly to Medellín, one of Colombia’s internationally recognized destinations, and the wider Antioquia region known for its pleasant climate, cultural offering, cuisine, urban transformation, innovation and nearby nature experiences.

A new gateway from Jamaica to Colombia

So far in 2026, the airline has transported 314,769 passengers on its routes to and from Antioquia’s capital, reflecting the dynamism of this market and its growing relevance within the company’s network.

A joint commitment to tourism and international connectivity

In addition to SIA, the launch of the Montego Bay-Medellín route was supported by the Jamaica Tourist Board, the Medellín Tourism and Entertainment Secretariat, the Medellín Convention & Visitors Bureau, ProColombia and Airplan, key partners in promoting air connectivity, tourism and the exchange of travelers between Jamaica and Colombia.

In line with this commitment, Luciana Alonso, representative of the Jamaica Tourist Board, said: “We celebrate this new direct route, which brings travellers from Antioquia closer to Jamaica’s culture, music, gastronomy and unique experiences, while also opening new opportunities to strengthen tourism exchange between Jamaica and Colombia.”
