New passport requirements for US travellers

Effective January 8, 2007, all travellers between the United States and the Caribbean (including Jamaica) will be required to have a valid passport for travel.

The new Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative mandated by the United States Department of Homeland Security requires that all U.S. citizens and foreign nationals, travelling by air or sea must provide a valid passport to enter or re-enter the United States.

U.S. nationals are encouraged to begin the passport application process as soon as possible.  Passport processing takes approximately eight weeks.
