MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica; July 24, 2024 – As part of the largest expansion in company history, Avelo Airlines announced today it will launch its first scheduled international route this fall between Jamaica’s Sangster International Airport (MBJ) and Hartford’s Bradley International Airport (BDL). Avelo is the only airline offering nonstop service between Montego Bay and the capital region of Connecticut.

Beginning November 16, 2024, Avelo will operate this route twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays, utilizing Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft. Introductory one-way fares between MBJ and BDL start at $178*. Travelers can make reservations at AveloAir.com.

Not only is Montego Bay a popular vacation destination but Connecticut is also home to one of the largest Jamaican communities in the world, boasting the fifth largest population of residents with Jamaican ancestry among all U.S. states. Baywest Wellness Clinic operates COVID-19 testing facility at Sangster International Airport.

Montego Bay, Jamaica, 27 January 2021 // Sangster International Airport (SIA), Jamaica’s leading gateway to the world operated by MBJ Airports Limited, has partnered with Baywest Wellness Clinic to operate a COVID-19 testing facility for users of the airport.

The partnership comes on the heels of the announcement for passengers traveling to the United States as of January 26, 2021 to provide a negative COVID-19 test result taken no more than 72 hours before their flight or proof of recovery from COVID-19 before boarding. In addition, effective January 7, 2021, the Canadian Government requires all travelers to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 molecular test result prior to boarding a flight to Canada. The test must be conducted within 72 hours of the traveler’s scheduled time of departure to Canada.

“We recognized the challenge this change in travel requirements may present to passengers and have moved quickly to establish a partnership with Baywest Wellness Clinic to offer a Covid-19 testing facility at the airport for the convenience of our passengers,” commented MBJ Airports CEO Shane Munroe.

Baywest Wellness Clinic is to administer both polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and antigen tests to users requesting either test at the Airport and in compliance with all applicable standards stipulated by the Ministry of Health & Wellness and the various countries to which users of the airport intend to travel. Results will be communicated to customers via QR code, text, email and paper certification. Test results are returned to customers within the fifteen (15) minutes for antigen testing and forty-eight hours (48) for PCR at a rate of USD $50 and USD $150 respectively.

Baywest Wellness Clinic is a health and wellness facility located in the tourism belt of Jamaica serving St. James and surrounding environs, with the aim to provide their patients with the best medical support, treatment options and facilities to enrich their health care experience.
